About Delikaasy

Delikaasy is an app and cheese database from Hamburg, Germany, for everyone who wants to discover cheese. You find cheeses through search, filters or a barcode scan, learn about origin, ageing and flavour profile, rate what you have tried, build a personal cheese collection and find cheese shops nearby.

Why Delikaasy exists

You stand in front of the cheese counter with a question nobody answers: will I like this? Wine has had tools for that for years; cheese has had almost none. Delikaasy translates cheese flavour into comparable properties and leads from there to varieties that match your own profile – instead of the same cheddar again.

Who is behind it

Delikaasy is built by Robert Oestmann in Hamburg, Germany. The full provider identification is in the imprint; the team can be reached at kontakt@delikaasy.app.

Where the cheese data comes from

Information about the varieties is merged from publicly available sources, manufacturer information and user contributions, and processed by automated means. Every entry is reviewed before release – only then does a cheese appear in the app. Incorrect details can be reported and get corrected.

How taste is recorded

Taste is not recorded as a single score but across nine dimensions from 1 to 10: intensity, sweetness, saltiness, acidity, umami, bitterness, creaminess, juiciness and maturity. The ratings of a variety form its profile; your own ratings form yours.

What is not finished yet

The app is in development and arrives on iPhone first; there is no date yet. Curated recommendations from cheese sommeliers are prepared but not in use. This page is kept up to date as that changes – open points stay here instead of quietly disappearing.
